    The  2021 Virtual Minnesota PBIS Summer Institute and Film Festival is June 16 and 17, 2021.  

    This year’s keynote will be Dr. Tamika La Salle, University of Connecticut (UConn), the school climate and culture coordinator for the Center on PBIS.

    Breakout sessions will focus on connecting PBIS with practices that promote equitable outcomes in education, and aligning initiatives in the PBIS framework.

    There is no cost for the Institute but registration is required.  Below is the link for registration.

    This presentation addresses how to develop our advocacy skills to make us more effective in influencing public policy. You will learn about the necessary components of effective personal advocacy, such as combining a story with data. (Data makes you credible, story makes you memorable.) Characteristics of effective organizations are presented, such as putting people in community together for mutual purpose and creating a sense of urgency around a specific action. Instruction in how to speak effectively with officials using the EPIC format  is also offered. In sum, if you want to improve how to be an effective advocate, this webinar offers sound advice. This webinar was created by Jos Linn, Manager of Grassroots Impact for RESULTS, a nonpartisan advocacy organization that works to end poverty nationally and globally. Linn graciously created this webinar upon our request to educate school psychologists about advocacy.

    We invite you to join K-12, higher education, and other educators such as community advocates, leaders, parents and youth development mentors for a year-long conversation about racial equity in our schools.-

    The Driving Racial Equity in Education Learning Series features eight online, two-hour relearning sessions on race guided by the acclaimed Talking About Race materials developed by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. You will read, watch or listen to materials before each session, and then participate in facilitated small group discussions to digest the material, its implications, and generate ideas to translate into action.

    Costs: $50 one-time fee includes all eight sessions
    (scholarships available upon request)

    Do not miss this no-cost opportunity to gain essential skills in solving behavior problems.  Every teacher and school psychologist NEEDS this to be implementing this systemic framework for students with behavior challenges.   
     

    Join us for a training series on Prevent-Teach-Reinforce led by Rose Iovannone, Ph.D., BCBA-D.  Dr. Iovannone is one of the developers of this research-based framework for implementing functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and developing function-based support plans (BIPs). PTR is a team-driven process that is facilitated by a coach who guides the team through identification of target behaviors, developing a hypothesis, building intervention plans, and providing active ongoing support to the teacher to implement the plan and evaluate its outcomes.  You'll get explicit guidance and strategies for implementing all five steps of PTR: 

    1. teaming and goal-setting
    2. collecting data
    3. conducting a PTR Functional Behavioral Assessment
    4. developing a PTR behavior intervention plan 
    5. Monitoring progress and making data-based decisions.

    Registration

    This training will be conducted via the Zoom platform. We will integrate the Zoom Tools for active participant learning including; imitation features, chat features, breakout rooms, and polls.  CEUs will be provided.

    We will be implementing the Prevent Teach Reinforce (PTR) professional learning experience over the course of the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. We will be doing this in four, 3-hour sessions. Plan to attend all sessions to learn/practice all 5 steps of PTR. If you are not able to attend it live, we will record the sessions for participants to watch after each session.  Participants will be charged $50 only if they do NOT attend or watch the recordings after registering.

    • Proven effective by research and field testing in real classrooms—PTR was shown to reduce behavior problems and increase evidence of social skills and academic engagement.
    • Structured and explicit, with five systematic steps that take you beyond tips and strategies.

    What does it mean to be “We the People” through an antiracist lens, in these times? How do we address the rise of right wing populism worldwide? In the USA, Brazil, the UK, Hungary and Turkey, right wing populism and neo-fascism are taking hold. In all cases, the divides are ethnic and cultural. In the USA, the fault lines are explicitly racialized. How do we take back, or claim for the first time in our history, the idea that “all means all” when we talk about “We the People”?

    August 25th, 8:30-10:00, The Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) with Kelly Perales and Brian Meyer from the Midwest Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Center

    The Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) is an implementation framework designed to integrate Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and School Mental Health (SMH) within school systems by recognizing the shared contributions of each system. The ISF applies the core features of MTSS to intentionally integrate mental health, community, school and family partners through a single system of support to promote wellness. This session is designed for district, school, and mental health partners to explore how to efficiently and effectively meet the social-emotional-behavioral health needs of all students. Strategies, resources, and tools will be shared with participants, in addition to examples of how education and mental health systems can create a single system of delivery. This webinar is a collaborative effort between the Divisions of Special Education and School Support at the Minnesota Department of Education as well as the Minnesota Department of Human Services Behavioral Health Division.
